Right now, I’ve got eighteen days left here in Germany. While the time since my parents left has been rather quite, I’ve still managed to keep myself busy and in good spirits. Although the scholarship helps, my funds have been tight, so exploring further than the city limits is hard to do. One thing I will miss about this place is how extensive of a bike trail system they have. The one by my building follows the river and goes on for miles in either direction, and links up with other paths that cut through open farm fields. I would take my camera, but running with one is not something I would like to do … sorry. Since today was the Fourth of July, I decided to grab an American meal: steak and fries (as pictured below). Unlike back home, where temperatures usually have reached hair-on-fire levels by now, the weather in Heidelberg is quite pleasant. With the exception of the heat we got last week, it has not gotten above 75 and there is usually a constant breeze. I’ll be missing it when its 95 and humid at Storrs in a few months, forcing me to try to sleep on an air vent for the Chem building (like last year). The sunsets aren’t too bad, either.

Happy Fourth of July! Even in Germany, there’s something uniquely American about steak and fries.

Mom and I in front of the Arc de Triomphe. I didn’t know it was so massive. On the other hand, its like building a huge statue of LeBron in Cleveland. A whole lot of noise for not much accomplished.

Here in Paris with my Mom and Dad after a great meal in Heidelberg. After getting in by train at one, we walked over and took the elevator to the top of the Eifel Tower, just a few minutes from our hotel. Despite the wind and cold, we got great views of the city. Since I don’t have my computer, I cannot post up all the pictures now, but here is a small preview. More to follow …

Gotta love these techno parties …

Seriously, it is 3:45 in the morning right now and this party in the student complex has been going on since 7 at night. How I’ve gotten the 4 hours of sleep before now is unbelievable. Because my walls are paper thin, there is a constant pounding in my room. Also, to be able to get any sleep, the window’s got to stay closed, making it incredibly stuffy and hot in here. At this point, its just obnoxious. Then again, its not like any one in this country works on the weekends or has an excuse to get up before noon.
